Spring Sunshine

For most of us in the UK this week, we have been enjoying spring sunshine. It does your heart and soul good to see it doesn't it? The colours in the garden are wonderful! Blossom's on the trees and daffodils and tulips giving the garden colour. It has made me a bit remiss on the Blog front, but I hope that you will forgive me, my loyal followers!
I have been reading (in the garden) about how important it is to look after your Soul. Many years ago, when you went to the GP he or she would enquire about your wellbeing. They would often live in the community they served and so knew what was going on in people's lives, through the community. Now you are lucky if you can see the same doctor twice, let alone have them know what is going on in your community, because the chances are they don't live in it!

Time and time again, people come to see me as a McTimoney Chiropractor, and are amazed at how detailed the history taking is. I take the time to ask them all the questions that are important to get a complete picture of what is going on in their lives. And those questions don't stop after the initial assessment.

Do they enjoy their job? Is your boss a good one? How are the children getting on at school? Are they planning their holidays? How do they feel about having to reapply for their own job? How are the plans going for their retirement? How is retirement? These are the types of questions that they might be asked at follow ups. When I moved up to Scotland, after working in the same place for 10 years, I realised how much a part of people's lives that I had become. I had listened to their ups and downs for the past 10 years! I had been blessed and privileged to be a part of their lives. I had listened to what was important in their lives. That is listening to the Soul.

Bernie Siegel says that people do well in their healing when they feel that they are in control of their treatment, whatever their health concern is. As a McTimoney Chiropractor I also believe that you, as my patient, are in control of your lives. I will give advice, but ultimately you are responsible for your own health, not me, not your Doctor, not any therapist of any description, but YOU! Many sports and activities are not good for the alignment of the spine, but they are what the Soul needs, so as your McTimoney Chiropractor, I am here to make sure that you are aligned so that your Soul can continue with what makes it happy, and that includes kneeling by your bed to say your prayers!(And being able to get up off your knees again)

Interestingly enough, I have had people come back and say that they feel closer to God after treatment, that they have been able to "connect" with God. It is no surprise to me that the phrase "align me with Your Will" is used. I align them physically so that they are then aligned Spiritually.

The sun has been absent for much of today, but I now see that it is coming out to bless the SW of Scotland for the evening, so I am going to find out how much of the garden my lovely husband has cleared for me today, so that I can sit by the byrne (brook/small river) with my pastels and sketch pad. have a Blessed Weekend!

Chiropractic and Gun Crime

What a strange title you may say. What has Chiropractic got to do with gun crime? On first thougths you may think none whatsoever, but let us look a little deeper into it.
A few short days ago, I was reading articles about the teenagers in the USA who go into the community and start shooting! One was entitled "He murdered a friend after taking this drug!" courtesy of Dr Mercola. We hear these stories in the News now, and we almost switch off to them, they are becoming so common. The article that I was reading linked these teenagers by the medications that they had been taking. They had ALL, either been on anti-depressants or were coming off them. So is this increase of teenagers opening fire due to depression or the anti-depressants that they are taking?
Then I got to thining about someone that I have treated Chiropractically. He was seriously depressed. Now I am NOT saying that he came to see me to treat his depression, he sought treatment because he was in pain. However because his pain was dealt with, his depression went too!
After several weeeks of treatment, when he was feeling better, I asked him how his depression had had an effect on his family life. He said "my children would watch me come down the stairs and say to each other 'he's in a bad mood, let's get out of here' and they would go out! Our family life was nil! I didn't want to go out and play football with my young son, nor take my wife shopping, in fact I would give her money to go out so I could be left in peace!" Now the only thing that depresses me is the fact that I took so long to see a McTimoney Chiropractor and get my life back!
Today I saw the News, this time of a shooting in Tolouse, France, 4 killed including 2 children. I wonder if the gun-man was taking an anti-depressant? We will probably never hear, but my heart goes out to all those peolpe who have suffered because their loved one was prescribed medication rather than seek Chiropractic treatment for the root cause!

When does the Soul Enter the Human Body?

This is a question that I have been asking myself over the past few weeks. So it was one reason why I wanted to listen to Thomas Moore, to see if he could shed any light on it. I don't have the answer, so if you have started reading this, hoping to get one, Sorry!
My conversations, mainly with my husband over these past weeks, we have debated whether the Soul is there at conception? Does it enter the body at birth? Does it enter at some other time? Who knows, that is part of the Wonder and Miracle that is Human Life!

So what do you think?

Work on my Soul Part 1

Every once in a while, you meet someone who shifts your outlook on the cosmos. Well in the past 24 hours I have met not 1, not 2, but many people who have had an influence on me, in ways that they may never know. Over the past few years, I have been following the works and lessons of Carolyn Myss and the work that she did on Teresa of Avila. Primarily "Entering the Castle" It is work on developing the Soul, and though it has been painful at times, it has paid dividends.
Yesterday I attended a talk given by Thomas Moore. Now I have to admit that I have not read any of his works, but intend to get hold of a copy of "Care of the Soul" and possibly more intriguing is the book entitled "Care of the Soul in Medicine". Listening to Thomas speak, I realised that what was missing in my working life as a nurse, was that freedom to look after people's Souls, once they entered hospital.
I recall one patient who was desperately ill, who was only 35 with a young family. He was petrified that if he fell asleep during the night he might die, and nobody would know because it was dark, so he kept himself awake all night, and I often found myself talking to him about his work as a blacksmith, and his wife and daughter, a longed for child who was conceived after years of marriage. And now here he was desperately ill and the doctors could not give him any reassurance that he would live to see his daughter start school, graduate, marry and all the other things we take for granted that we will watch our children do.
When I was back on day shift, I used to ask the cleaners to go around his room quietly as he was sleeping, only to hear "he should sleep during the night like everybody else!" How could I get across to them that he was frightened in case he died and nobody discovered him until it was too late. it finally came to a head when my "colleagues" reported me to the Ward Sister for not doing any work, because I was talking to him all night!!!
I was already training to be a McTimoney Chiropractor at this stage, with a massage and aromatherapy qualification under my belt, so I handed in my notice shortly after this.
When people now come to me, (often with bad backs, but not always), I have the time to listen to their life stories. How not being able to work because of their bad back has on their mental health, how they worry about the bills that keep coming in, how they cannot play with their children as they would like to, how they cannot go hill-walking as they would like. Gradually over the weeks of treatment, I hear how they are back at work, back playing football with the boys, and hill-walking again.I have such a privileged position as a McTimoney Chiropractor, each day brings me such joy.

Spring is in the Air

As the light evening's start to waken us from our Winter slumber, we start to become more active. How many of you have been out on your bikes in the past few weeks? Or felt a little less sleepy, and have got more "get up and go!"
Have any of you tried to be a little more active, and found that your body just doesn't want to work quite as well as you might like it too.
Here's what "Charlie the Chiropractor" has to say about it.

Keepwell in Spring

Spring has arrived in Hedghog Row
But everyone is moving terribly slow
Alex tells Fufu that through hibernation
Charlie says sleeping can cause sub...lux....ation
Because when we stay in one place too long
The spine and it's cord can sometimes go wrong
So we go to see Charlie, he knows what to do
His hands will know it's your first visit too
They will work all the way down the 24 bones
Helping your body to work on its own
When you've been a few times, just wait and see
You'll be as strong and as happy as me.

So if you have been a couch potato all winter and now would like to enjoy the Spring sunshine and get out in the fresh air, but feel that your body is not working as well as it should, then give me a call. It is never too late!

Subluxation = misalignment

Soooooo long

So what has been going on in the McTimoney Chiropractic world in South Ayrshire? Well first of all I have been extremely busy, helping the people of Ayr maximize their optimum health. I have had some incredible results with little people, who to be honest have been let down by the NHS. I cannot say too much for confidentiality reasons, but all I can say is, if your child has been born prematurely and then diagnosed with anything, then please take him or her along to a McTimoney Chiropractor and see if they can help. The premature spine is not developed enough to take the full force of contractions, and so it gets bent like a twig. The baby might gget away with it, depending on how they are lying in the womb firstly, and secondly how long the woman labours before she seeks help. The NHS does not appear to understand this, and a "wait and see" stance is taken. If I get permission to tell the story of these littel people who have been helped to stand and walk after just 10 treatments, then I will fill you in.
Have a good weekend, and be blessed.
